Disputes among the World May Come

A hymn of exhortation

November 24, 2022 Anno Domini

Verse 1 -- Luke 12:13-15, 31 ; John 16:33

Disputes among the world may come
And turn thee from thy peace,
Upset thee from thy rhythm’s drum
And beckon just release.

But take thou heed and covet not;
Unfounded is thy fright.
For Father God hath seen thee fraught,
To feed thee in thy plight.

Verse 2 -- Luke 12:15-21

A man once builded awful grand,
To save his works in whole.
He stored up goods by his own hand
And comforted his soul.

To him, who treasured not to God,
The LORD did swift decree,
“This night thy soul must give account;
Then whose shall things be?”

Verse 3 -- Luke 12:22-24

But take no thought for thy own case,
For what to eat, to wear:
Since life is more than food and chase;
Than garments, it’s more fair.

Consider now the ravens’ thought:
They neither sow nor reap.
Provideth God their daily lot;
Thus will He thee upkeep.

Verse 4 -- Luke 12:28 ; Galatians 4:6, 7; Hebrews 6:17-20

If God doth clothe the fielded grass,
Ephemeral in fate,
That it be wondrous o’er the mass
While in its simple state,

How grand is He, the LORD, to clothe
The heirs of Kingdom Come?
Whose needs He meeteth by His oath,
Whose grace is sprung therefrom.

Verse 5 Luke 12:31, 32 ; Revelation 21:4 ; Romans 8:16-18

Then seek His kingdom o’re all else;
For nothing take thou woe.
The Father giveth all thy helps;
He always loveth so.

Thus wouldst thou be apart from tears,
Gone from all that befalls:
It pleaseth God to place the heirs
Within His kingdom’s walls.
